Classroom Procedures

  • Enter class quietly and sign in.
  • Read instructions from board or overhead.
  • Be prepared to work when the bell rings.
  • When assigned work is finished, read or study quietly.
  • The teacher dismisses the class, not the bell.
  • No food is allowed in Hope Island classrooms.  Students can drink bottled water, but not soda or other beverages.  Violations will result in a detention.
  • Students may leave the classroom only with a signed pass from the teacher and your school ID card.  The hall pass must have your name, the date,  your destination, and the time you left.
  • Students will receive five restroom passes per quarter to use in any Hope Island class. Passes not used by the end of the quarter may be redeemed for extra credit in the student’s class of choice.

Detentions

  • When a student has been tardy three times in a quarter, he/she will be assigned a 40-minute after-school detention. Additional tardiness will result in progressive discipline.
  • All detentions must be served on the assigned days. Detention time is from 2:20-3:00 p.m.
  • With repeated student infractions/misbehavior, teachers will use progressive discipline as per the Student Handbook.
  • If a substitute teacher reports a problem with a student’s behavior, a detention will be assigned or progressive discipline action will be taken. Substitute teachers and their own rules must be respected and adhered to!

Tardies

Students arriving five minutes or more after the late bell will be marked absent.

ABSENCES AFFECT YOUR GRADES!

Class Assignments

  • All work is due on the assigned due date.

  • A student may receive full credit on a daily assignment by turning in a restroom pass and the completed assignment by the end of the next school day.
  • Unexcused absences will result in no credit for the assignment missed.
  • A student receives one day for each day missed to make up a class assignment, if they have an excused absence.
