COURSE TITLE         Math Matters

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION

            Math Matters applies basic math skills to real world situations using estimation, fractions, decimals, percents, logical thinking, geometry, measurement, probability and statistics.  Concepts and generalizations are explored to promote lifelong math skills.  This course also prepares students for moving on to algebra and geometry during their high school studies.

·        Write to explain processes and solutions.

 

 

 

MATH TARGETS

·        To use pictures and symbols to demonstrate understanding of fractions, decimals, and percents.

·        To add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions, decimals, and percents.

·        To write equivalencies among fractions, decimals, and percents.

·        To apply the concepts of fractions, decimals, and percents to real-life situations.

CLASS REQUIREMENTS

            -Each student will need a spiral notebook to be used as a math journal.
-Students should attend after school help-time sessions as necessary to get help on assignments.
