Running Start Program

The Running Start Program is one of the options for Oak Harbor High School students to earn college credits while in high school. This Washington State program allows high schools and colleges to share funding for students, allowing students to attend classes at Skagit Valley College tuition free. Class fees, books and materials are paid for by the student. Students who qualify for free/reduced lunch or the McKinney-Vento program may have fees waived by providing documentation to the college. Most students take classes on the Whidbey Island campus of Skagit Valley College. Funding is provided for courses that are 100 level or above. Students may take classes under the 100 level for high school credit but are responsible for the tuition payment. Students must provide their own transportation to the college.  For more information, see your high school counselor.

Skagit Valley College classes below 100 level and any class offered during the summer quarter are not included in the Running Start program.
