Oak Harbor Celebrates the Grand Opening of Crescent Harbor Elementary and Forest Vista Learning Center
On October 15, Oak Harbor Public Schools invited our community to celebrate the grand opening of our two new grant-funded schools. The events of the day included participation by many distinguished guests, including student leaders, representatives from federal and state agencies, military leadership, elected officials, community partners, and our School Board. The community was also invited to tour both locations.
Thank you to the many hands, many minds, and many hearts who joined together around one shared belief: our children deserve nothing less than our very best.
This week Oak Harbor Public Schools welcomed retirees for our annual retiree social. The group discussed the grand openings of our new grant-funded schools, the upcoming bond measure, and heard from student chefs from Oak Harbor High School. The culinary arts students also provided lunch to group.
This annual gathering is always a cheerful reunion of friends. We are proud to welcome this group and to share our gratitude of their service to Oak Harbor Public Schools each year.
2027 School Construction Bond
On February 9, 2027, Oak Harbor voters will consider a $110 Million School Construction Bond measure that proposes rebuilding Oak Harbor Elementary School at the district's Fort Nugent property to provide a safer, more functional learning environment for students. It also proposes replacing the current transportation center to better support the safety, maintenance and transportation needs of students.
The state does not fund new schools or major construction projects, requiring districts to seek local voter-approved ballot measurers to address aging facilities. A school bond is a long-term investment that funds large-scale construction, improvement or modernization projects for schools.
The last bond that was approved for Oak Harbor Public Schools was in 2006 for the modernization of Oak Harbor High School. That bond has since expired and was paid off on time and under budget.
What You Can Do

Daylight saving time ends this weekend! At this time of year, mornings are darker, colder, and visibility is reduced during school commute hours. We urge drivers to please remain vigilant in school zones and around school bus stops and busses. And we ask pedestrians to use designated crosswalks, look both ways, and to consider wearing warm and bright or reflective clothing when walking or biking to school. Thank you for helping keep our #OneOakHarbor community safe!
Welcome Kent Keller, Director of Strategic Communications and Family Engagement
We are thrilled to announce Kent Keller as our new Director of Strategic Communications and Family Engagement. Kent brings extensive experience in strategic communications, public affairs, crisis communication, and community engagement.
In October, second grade classes from all of our schools visited the Keystone Farm and Forest Preserve for place-based learning aligned to Washington State's Since Time Immemorial curriculum. Students learned about the history, culture, and geographic landscape of the area with hands-on activities and exploration.
The Keystone Preserve is a place designated by the Whidbey Camano Land Trust for conservation, partnerships and learning. We are thankful for this important collaboration that allows our students to learn from and better appreciate their surroundings.
Thank you to our Teaching & Learning Department, school staff, and second grade teachers for making this a memorable moment for so many students and for demonstrating our strategic plan value to challenge every learner with student-centered, rigorous, high-quality, engaging learning experiences.
Oak Harbor High School choirs collaborated on songs from around the globe for the annual “Horizons” Choir Concert on October 15. The concert featured songs from the United States, Malaysia, Scotland, and Polynesia, along with Disney songs inspired by these different regions.
OHHS choir alumni also made a special appearance, joining the current choirs to sing their signature songs, “Remember” and “How Can I Keep From Singing?”

Oak Harbor Intermediate Students Place 4.6 Billion Years of Earth’s History on a 5-Meter Timeline
Oak Harbor Intermediate students in Mr. Clarke's class took on a massive challenge this month by mapping 30 major milestones in Earth’s history across a 5 meter timeline!
On this scale, 1 meter = 1 billion years (and 1 cm = 10 million years!). Working in groups, they researched key events like the first land plants, Pangaea, dinosaurs, and early horses and placed them accurately along the timeline.
