Career and Technical Education Director, Ray Cone


Ray Cone spent twelve years in the financial industry before transitioning to a career in education. Ray moved to Ray Oak Harbor in 1987 when he transferred from Seattle, WA, to take a position at Interwest Savings Bank. Ray married an Oak Harbor High School graduate who was working at "the bank" in 1990. After teaching night classes, volunteering in various youth organizations, and with child number two on the way, Ray and his family moved to Tumwater, WA. He went back to college full-time to complete his Master's in Education in 1994 - Officially starting a new career in education. 

 

Ray taught Mathematics, Physics, and AP Computer Science in the Clover Park School District until 1999, when he was offered a teaching position at Oak Harbor High School.  In 2002, Ray completed the Educational Administration program at Western Washington University. In 2003, he was hired as the Assistant Principal at Oak Harbor Middle School, transferred to North Whidbey Middle School in 2007, and then returned to Oak Harbor High School in 2012. Ray currently directs our district’s Career and Technical Education program saying, "I found my best career match ever".

 

Over the years, Ray has earned several Bachelor’s degrees (Computer Science, Accounting, Mathematics, and Physics) and a Master's in Education.  He believes in lifelong learning and is proud of the Career and College course offerings available for every student who attends Oak Harbor High School and looks forward to seeing how our Wildcats will shine in their careers.

 

Blessed with a family of Oak Harbor graduates - Ray has his wonderful wife, Stephanie, his awesome kids - Melany, Abi, Trenton, and a soon-to-be Washington State Patrol graduate - Chris.
