A Letter From Your Administrators

Dear Wildcat Families,

In the final full week of April, seniors were able to pick up their caps and gowns in the SUB. For many, that's an event that really heightens students' anticipation for this momentous occasion. Sending OHHS graduates to the next series of milestones and achievements in their lives is not just a joy for parents and guardians but for peers, staff, and community members who have had the good fortune to take part in their growth. Each year, we celebrate for --and with-- our outstanding OHHS seniors as they begin their final full month of high school. If you missed our senior parent meeting on April 22, be sure to check out the Countdown to Graduation 2024 section of this newsletter where you can find a link to the slideshow and other important information from that meeting!

Student Voice Survey | May 13th

Students will be taking our biannual student voice survey during Advisory on Monday, May 13th. Administering this survey at regular intervals gives us an indication of where our strengths are and where we can do better in service to our students.

Answers to frequently asked questions about the survey are listed below:

  • The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.

  • The survey results are confidential.

  • The survey content asks students to reflect on their supportive relationships, feelings towards school, self-management, social-awareness, and emotional regulation.

  • If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether.

  • The survey contains both multiple choice and short answer questions. A few examples of questions include:

    • “Do you have a teacher or other adult from school that you can count on to help you, no matter what?”

    • “What do you wish your teacher knew about how school feels for you?”

If you have any questions about our student voice survey or concerns about your student participating, please contact one of the following members of the Teaching and Learning team:

Emily Couch, Multi-tiered Systems of Support Lead, ecouch@ohsd.net

Liz Ritz, Director of Teaching and Learninglritz@ohsd.net

#OneOakHarbor - Building a Vision for Student Success

As you know, we have been engaging in a journey to student success through a community-wide Strategic Planning process that will guide our work for the next five years. We want to thank the thousands of students, staff, families and community members who have been a part of this journey so far!

Now is the time to vote on the new Oak Harbor Public Schools "Promise Statement" or tagline to go with our Strategic Plan and vision for the future of our schools. A promise statement is a simple, short, and inspiring statement that captures the commitment of the Oak Harbor Public Schools community. The draft statements in the survey were developed by our Core Community Strategic Planning Committee, which includes students, staff, families and community members.

Please place your vote here on your top choice by May 10, 2024

Thank you for being a part of this journey to develop a strategic plan to ensure all students in the Oak Harbor Public Schools are successful as #OneOakHarbor.
