Important Safety Message

Posted Date: 1/07/25 (4:04 PM)

Dear Oak Harbor Public Schools Staff & Families,

As a precaution today, Oak Harbor High School was briefly placed on a Secure then Hold status this afternoon because of an anonymous tip. During these actions, students are trained to stay in their classrooms or areas until given the all-clear.  Law enforcement quickly investigated and provided us with the all-clear to return to normal operations.

The safety and protection of our students and staff is always our top priority. This school year, Oak Harbor Public Schools adopted the Standard Response Protocol. The SRP is based on the following actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter. We have outlined each action in a Parent’s Guide on our website and attached a handout with more information about our procedures.

We appreciate the continued partnership with our law enforcement to quickly respond to the incident today. We know when incidents like this happen it can cause anxiety and stress for both students, families and staff. Events like these serve as a valuable reminder to our families and students about the critical importance of school safety.  Please join us in encouraging our students to immediately report any threats to safety to administration or law enforcement.

Thank you for your partnership as we work to ensure our schools provide safe and welcoming environments for all students.

Sincerely,

Oak Harbor Public Schools
