Congratulations to Oak Harbor High School for earning AESD Accreditation for 2024-2030!

Dr. Ismael Vivanco, Superintendent of Northwest Educational Service District (NWESD) 189, recognized OHHS at the January 13 school board meeting.

AESD Accreditation is a rigorous process that takes about a year to complete. It provides and external review and validation of the School Improvement Plan and serves as a statement of accountability to the public. The accreditation establishes that OHHS "has demonstrated an exceptional ongoing commitment to data-driven, student achievement-focused, research-based, and collaboratively developed school improvement planning and strategies."

The AESD board panel commended Oak Harbor High School for inviting student voice and involving parents for the school improvement plan, and then adapting the plan based on the feedback received. OHHS was also commended for the utilization of Character Strong curriculum and the willingness of building administrators to model lessons for staff. In addition, OHHS was recognized for unifying building staff around focused evaluation aligned to Social Emotional Learning (SEL) goals.

Last year Oak Harbor High School administrators, staff, students, and parents participated in the planning process for the district's new strategic plan. The strategic plan drives the district’s vision, goals, initiatives, and strategies to ensure every student has what they need to succeed in Oak Harbor Public Schools. Oak Harbor High School is committed to making sure our graduates can confidently say "I've got skills. I am a difference maker. I am career ready, and I am future focused."

AESD is the largest accrediting body in Washington State and the Northwest Educational Service District 189 is the lead agency for accreditations.
