OHHS Monthly Newsletter for April 2025

A Message From Your Administrators
Dear Wildcat Families~
We can officially use the word “spring”! Spring sports are well underway, Spring Break is less than a week away, and we’ve begun to receive commendations from multiple organizations with which our students engage for the cumulative work they’ve done in the 2024/2025 school year!
As more students take advantage of longer daylight hours to walk, skateboard, or cycle to school, we humbly request that both parent and student drivers devote all attention and care to affording pedestrians the safety they deserve. We also encourage pedestrians to be self-aware and mindful of their surroundings.
The warmer weather, sunshine, and spring activities may make us feel like the end of the school year is near. However, classes, assignments, and grades matter as much today as they did on the first day of school. “Perseverance” and “Determination” are a part of our school-wide acronym (P.R.I.D.E) for good reason. According to our 30th President, Calvin Coolidge: "Nothing in the world can take the place of perseverance. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.” Persistence and determination are crucial ingredients in the recipe for success. Stick with it, Wildcats!
We’re proud of all our students have achieved thus far, and we look forward to all they will learn, produce, and present in the ten weeks to come!

On March 20-21, twenty-six members of the Oak Harbor High School Drama Club attended the WA State Thespian Festival at the Seattle Convention Center. Over two exciting days, students participated in workshops led by theatre professionals, watched performances from other schools, and showcased their own talents for adjudicators—earning several prestigious awards.
The festival began with an inspiring opening ceremony at The 5th Avenue Theatre. Among the standout performances, Cyrus Amor, Lucas Smith, and Rey Madrid were selected to perform "You Could Drive a Person Crazy" from Company by Stephen Sondheim—an honor awarded to only the top superior-rated group musical performances.
Oak Harbor’s Drama Club was also recognized as a Gold Honor Troupe, a distinction given to thespian troupes that demonstrate excellence in production, participation, and community outreach throughout the year. Drama Club Vice President Harley Engle and Publicist Ashley Mendoza proudly presented their achievements to the judges.
Adding to the excitement, Logan Hendricks made history as the first Oak Harbor student to be selected as a State Thespian Officer—a remarkable accomplishment!
The club also excelled in theatrical performances with two Best of Fest awards:
Speed Date by Janet Allard, originally performed in November and directed by seniors Dana Rivo and Drama Club President Adriana Froman, received a superior rating and was awarded Best of Fest in the One-Act Marathon category.
A condensed version of A Trip to the Moon by Tracy Wells, adapted from their February production, also earned a superior rating and won Best of Fest in the Main Stage Comedy category.
The festival wrapped up with an unforgettable experience—attending the professional production of Waitress at The 5th Avenue Theatre.
Congratulations to all our talented Drama Club members for their outstanding achievements and for representing Oak Harbor High School with passion and excellence!

This is a reminder: Students are not to park in the front lot or areas designated for staff parking. Those students caught parking in staff parking will not only be required to pay the fine, but their campus parking privileges will be revoked and they will not be allowed to park anywhere on campus for the remainder of the school year.
Senior Parents! Order Hawaiian Leis that your student can wear during the graduation ceremony on June 14th. Leis are the only way that students are able to “decorate” their graduation outfits.
NOTE: Please include your student’s name in the “Add a note for the seller” box on the payment page.
